In Reply to: Got Screwed by Nissan Consumer Affairs over my selt belt chiming problem. posted by PaxMax on June 14, 2002 at 09:08:09:
In my opinion you have enough points in your favor to warrent taking it to the next level. I would call back Nissan Consumer affairs and ask for a supervisor. Were you able to find anyone else who has had this work done and had paperwork? Try posting on the org for anyone who has had this work done. If you could get invoices that would go a long way towards proving your case. You could also maybe stop a body shop or two and ask them if the previous door damage appears to have affected anything beyond the door. That may be difficult for them to determine, but that could be usefull leverage if you are on the phone with Nissan...."Two seperate autobody shops feel that previous door damage to my car would not have affected safety equipment in the body of the car." : I have a 91 Maxima SE will ocassional seat belt chiming problem when I go over bumps....here's my : On June 3rd, I called Nissan Consumer Hotline 800-NISSAN-1 and asked them if the seat belt : After waiting for Nissan over a week, on June 10th, I called Nissan Consumer Hotline and asked : The next day June 11th, I drive my car to my Bayride Nissan Dealer in Brooklyn to get the seat belt sensor : On June 12th, in the morning at 9am, I page "Dave" at Nissan again, but go no answer. Fearing that : In addition, my Bayridge Nissan Dealer made my seat belt problem even worse. When I go to my car again, : I think I got screwed!!!!!! : Any comments??? : PaxMax
(1) Dave's lack of a reasonable respose time
(2) The dealer not identifying the specifics of the problem you asked them to diagnose (and instead trying to drum up some other more profitable business)
(3) Them using the door repaint as an excuse to not deal with the problem
good luck man

: big story of how I got screwed by Nissan.... enjoy!
: sensors were covered or not. I spoke to a man by the name of "Dave" and was assigned the file
: Number 378-6283. They said that they would do a search of the archives and contact me about the
: findings.
: about the status of the File Number. The lady on the phone told me that the "seat belt" sensors
: are covered under the Life time warranty. I asked the lady if she could fax me some proof of this.
: However, she said that I only need to tell the dealer the File Number or the VIN number to confirm
: on the computer that the Seat belt sensors are covered under the life time warranty.
: serviced. That day, the service consultant "Vincent Lam" tells me that my car doors was repainted.
: Thus, the warranty is void due to evidence of damage to the car. In addition, I need to pay a $75
: diagnotic fee for wasting their time. Afterwards, I contact Nissan Consumer Affairs ask them is
: verify this. They said that they would forward the info to "Dave" and let him make a final decision.
: I cited that the seat belt are entirely in the frame of the car, not the doors at all. I cited that the
: seat belts chiming is giving false alarms that the seat belt is not securely fastened. Thus, there is
: a safety issue. I had the page "Dave" for me because the dealer would charge me a storage fee if
: I did not pick up the car in 24 hours.
: I would incur a storage fee, I immediately leave work early at 11am to pick up my car at the Bayridge
: Nissan dealer. This time, I called "Dave" at Nissan Consumer Affairs again. I explain to him the situation again.
: This time he said very clearly "the seat belt sensors are not covered under the life time warranty, only the seats
: belts are." At this I get very angry and complain why he didn't call me sooner. Then he says "sorry" because
: he was busy. I was very upset that the Nissan Consumer Affairs lady told me that the "seat belt sensors"
: would covered, if "Dave" said that they were "never" covered. I wasted me time and had to leave work early to
: fix me car. If I knew that the repairs were not covered at all, I would have never brought my car to the
: dealership to begin with. Obviously, the people at Nissan Consumer Affairs are not being consistent.
: the seat belt sensor would chime when I start my car up. In the past, the chime would only happen when I
: drove over a bump. This dealer made my problem even worse. With the diagnotic fee they charged they
: did not even tell me where the problem lies (i.e. the sensor, switch, track, etc.). Instead they gave me a
: laundry list of every problem in my car from needing new shocks.. to leaking boots....weak CV joints... leaky
: oil pan....etc. Their estimated cost of the necessary repairs in my car $10,000. Arggg!!!!
